Peter Crouch Podcast Evaluation

The aim/purpose of this podcast is to educate and entertain people, they do this by him telling stories about his experiences being a professional footballer but they do it in a chill way as they are sat in a pub with 3 pints just talking like mates. There target audience are sporty 16+ as they are informal and swear quite a bit. There presentation style is laid back and has the interviewer asking Peter Crouch questions and the other person just bounces off of them. Theres hardly any audience participation as to me that would kind of kill the vibe as it would exclude the interviewers part in the podcast. The content is mostly sport (football) and everything to do with it and pretty much every episode has a special guest. The broadcast time of each episode is anywhere between 10-20 minutes so compared to other podcasts like Joe Rogan, who goes on for about 3 hours, there is a lot less content but it make up for it in laughs.

Podcast Treatment:

Programme Aim and Purpose - The aim of our podcast is to entertain/educate people about ongoing events in everyday life, sports, gaming and whatever our interviewee does and other topics that just come up in general chat.

We want to make it seem as though the listeners are part of a conversation so we do not want it to be formal. Listeners are more likely to stay if there is a laid back feel.

Target Audience - The target audience of our podcast will be around 16-25 year olds. We believe that having a young target audience makes it easier for them to relate to the topics we’re talking about as it’s coming from our point of view. This doesn’t necessarily narrow down who can and can’t listen to our podcast as the topics we plan on talking about are quite general, so older listeners may have a different opinion.

Presentation Style - We’re going to present our podcast with a certain structure but we will have random topics that we talk about in between. The podcast will be informal as it's more just chatting than scripted.

All three of us will also be involved, so listeners will feel as though they are part of  a conversation.

We want our podcast to be educational, but in a way listeners don’t lose interest quickly. As we’re going to speak about our personal experiences, the stories will be unique to keep people interested.

Levels of Audience Participation - For the first episode of the podcast, we will not include any audience participation due to the fact that we do not have an audience. However, audience participation can be included after we get feedback from the first episode.

For future episodes, social media platforms can be used to reach out to an audience to gather different peoples opinions.

Content - We will start by recording our conversation topics (lifestyle, current affairs, sports / media, gaming), then move onto our special guest segment.

We have decided to record our intro after we have recorded the rest of the podcast so we can introduce what we’re about to talk about.

Proposed Broadcast Time - The podcast will probably range from 45 minutes to an hour in length, depending on how the recording session goes and how much content we manage to record. We think this is a good length for a podcast because it’s not long enough to drag on and bore the audience.

Contingency Plan - If our special guest for some reason cannot join us on Wednesday, we can record a segment with him over Zoom. Using zoom makes it easier for us to get in touch with people we would like to interview as they do not have to make the journey to the stadium and can answer our questions remotely.

Further Development Ideas - If we were to continue our podcast and create more episodes in the future, social media would play a huge part in expanding our audience. We would like our audience participation to play a greater part in the production of our podcast for future episodes so listeners feel as though they are a part of something.

Sample Materials - We used a website called Canva.com to come up with our album artwork. We knew we wanted it to include bright colours, so we tested out many colours and fonts. We wanted it to look simplistic but also eye catching, so we  looked at the spotify podcast charts for inspiration and this is how our artwork turned out in the end:

This is the way I edited the podcast. We did it so 2 of us were on 1 Tascam and 1 on the other. This meant I had to sync up the audio perfectly as well overwise there would have been an echo sound. We also didn't do the podcast in one go but in 3 different parts as it is easier and between each segment there is transition music to indicate it.

Final Podcast and evaluation

This is how I converted the audio so it comes out both ear phones if using headphones or earphones. So I went on edit > convert sample type and before I changed it, it was on stereo so the audio was coming out of multiple channels. The issue with this is that there are two Tascam's so two of us would be in one ear and one of us in the other. This could mean that it is less accessible for people with hearing problems.  To solve this we had to change it to Mono so the audio came out of one channel.

This is how I exported the podcast. I had to do this as an MP3 so it is compatible with Anchor (where I uploaded it) and my website

For my Podcast production project, I created a 47 minute podcast containing 4 segments, News, Gaming, Special guest and sports. What went well about the podcast is that there weren’t any mess ups, all the segments went perfectly and there were no problems with the special guest not being able to come in. Nothing really went wrong apart from the audio having to be adjusted as I was too close and others were too far. Also, there could have been more enthusiasm in our voices as it did sound dull in some parts. Things I would do to improve this are trying to settle the nerves as it was our first time doing a podcast.

Over all, I am happy with the outcome considering it is our first podcast and I would like to do more episodes in the future if the opportunity arrises.

If we were to do another episode, there are things I would change, first being trying to make a Vodcast as well as a podcast so we can expand to Youtube as well as Spotify. The next thing I would do differently is editing, as although the intro music and transition music did the job, it doesn’t really feel good as it isn’t original plus the intro music doesn’t really fit the vibe of the podcast. The final thing I would change, is to hopefully get some audience participation so it gets the listeners involved and lifts the enthusiasm of the podcast. If we do a second episode, I wish to have these improvements.
